Unholy Structure

The Mansion That Refused to be Restored

Based on the case file of John Curley, Founder of the Harrisburg Paranormal Society

The mansion was built in 1750. An ideal spot for an inn, it boasted twenty bedrooms and eight full baths on the third and second floors. The last time it was renovated was in 1945, right after World War II. Legend claimed most of the structure remained unrenovated. No one knew why.

John entered the front door to find several tradespeople were milling about. Amid the chaos, a man in his early forties approached him. He was the construction manager. As they trod gingerly through the debris, John reiterated that the new owner wanted an explanation of why the construction crew kept quitting, halting the timely progress of the renovation. They were the third crew to attempt renovation in a year. The manager turned to a man in coveralls who was chewing a piece of gum. “You can start with him.”

Unbeknownst to John and his crew of investigators, they were about to embark on an odyssey that would lead them to historical files: to a murder, a missing child, a dog, a house fire, and finally, the massacred bodies of soldiers whose resting place refused to be disturbed.

This is a worthwhile & heart-warming read which compels you to keep reading. Well-written! The story in "The Way Through the Woods" demonstrates how we can keep our humanity during oppressive conditions. There are many sad and sometimes scarey twists in the plot.

While the subject matter feels almost unbelievable, the palpable and honest way the story is laid out leads me to believe that this story is as true a recounting as can be recalled by the people it's happened to. Gave me chills down my spine.
