The Dudleytown Mystery

This story came my way from two investigators, one of whom I respect greatly. Michelle Lemke Budke is the psychic medium in my latest supernatural thriller, Against The Forbidden Darkness. She’s one heck of a medium which I will personally vouch is a real and genuine clairvoyant, clairaudient (Able to hear ghosts.) and is unique in the respect of her ability to cross souls into the higher realms.

Michelle contributed this story about a little abandoned village that happened to be located in my home state of Connecticut. If you’re familiar with Connecticut, its lovely combination of pastures and lively university towns make for a lovely setting for writers like me and also present intrigue. Michelle will be contributing more to my blog in the upcoming months as I write my next and eighth thriller, THE SHOPKEEPER OF SALERNO, about a tourist couple who ended up staying with a local shopkeeper after missing their tour bus. The novel is based on their terrifying and true story.

The following is from Michelle Lemke-Budke.

One of the most infamous haunting stories among the many in Connecticut comes from a place called Dudleytown. In the mid 18th century, the Dudley family migrated from England and settled in a small village in the Northwestern part of Connecticut, known today as Cornwall. Today, the town is closed to the public. Most of the property is consumed by forest.

The legend is that previous owners who settled in the village were plagued with terrible misfortune. People have claimed to experience strange occurrences in the spooky woods that surround the village, including a lack of animal wildlife in the eerily quiet woods. The site has become quite a nuisance for local and state police, and the property is currently privately owned by the Dark Entry Forest Association — even that sounds spooky. The story goes that anyone who has tried to live in what had been Dudleytown has come into some terrible misfortune. Over the years, there has allegedly been everything from suicides to demonic possessions, and all the hysterical drama in between.

The Warrens famously recorded a Halloween special from Dudleytown in the early 1970s, declaring it officially “demonically possessed,” which essentially opened the supernatural floodgates. Since then, it has been home to all sorts of alleged paranormal experiences, with visitors witnessing all manner of spirit and phantom as well as having unsettled feelings of dread and fear. As you might expect, the area has also drawn the attention of those enthralled with dark forces and demonic rituals, plus a healthy number of amateur ghosthunters and teenagers simply searching for trouble. In short, it’s become a damnation destination.

In the next installment, I will delve into one investigator’s account of their visit to this now decrepit village and their experience while there. See you all in a few clicks!
